Star Cool introduces eco-friendly insulation
Insulation foam for reefer machines requires the use of a cell
gas. Traditional cell gasses like HCFC141b contain ozone depleting
substances and/or add to global warming, but now Star Cool has
switched to an environmentally friendly insulation foam called
SuPoTec® for all its units.
The environmentally friendly insulation foam: SuPoTec
(Sustainable Polyurethane Technology) not only complies with
the Montreal Protocol in terms of using an alternative to
HCFC's, to avoid ozone depletion (ODP); it also reduces the
global warming potential (GWP) of every Star Cool unit by
approximately 800 kgs of CO2 resulting in a GWP value close to
Zero.
SuPoTec, which has recently been introduced to all new Star Cool
units, is a result of the constant focus on innovation within the
MCI Group, of which Star Cool is a part of. The aim was to find a
viable and safe blowing agent, which is required for making
insulation foam. The base component is cyclopentane, which is
enhanced with the addition of materials to ensure a nearly
unchanged thermal performance compared to the traditional HCFC141b
method.
The introduction of SuPoTec supports Star Cool's enduring effort
to find environmentally sound solutions which have become a
necessary change in every industry today. Simply complying with
current laws is not enough, as laws and customer expectations
constantly change. Creating eco-advantages means aspiring to go
beyond compliance with environmental laws, striving to reduce the
environmental foot print along the value chain, and helping our
customers and suppliers meet their environmental goals.
